Colombo, Sri Lanka, November 12, 2024 – The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) etched its name in international markets by clinching the Gold Award at the International Convention on Quality Control Circles (ICQCC), a prestigious innovation competition taking place in Colombo, Srilanka.
MBPJ is represented by the Public Private Partnership for Recycling (3P4R) Group consisting of seven participants, Mrs. Siti Nabilahuda binti Zamri, Mrs. Premila a/p Theruk Kumaran, Mr. Wan Muhammad Naim bin Wan Musa, Mr. Syed Hazmi bin Syed Abu Hassan, Mr. Keng Zi Xiang, Mrs. Noor Shamimi binti Maulad Rahim Ghani and headed by TPr. Lee Lih Shyan, Director of Development Planning Department.
This recognition was obtained as a result of an innovative project titled “Improving the Effectiveness of Community Participation in Recycling Through Public-Private Collaboration”. This success proves MBPJ's commitment in driving sustainability agenda and empowering community innovation.
This innovation effort is supported by MBPJ's strategic partner which is KPT Recycle. Also present are Mr. Mohd Irfan bin Muhammed Azizan and Mr. Nasharuddin bin Mohamad Shali as the Council's Innovation Secretariat.
This year's ICQCC saw fierce competition with the participation of 597 teams spanning four categories, including 461 entries in the Quality Control Circles (QCC) category. The competition was attended by various countries, including China, Korea, Taiwan, Zambia, Philippines, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia.
For the record, this project also recorded success at the Selangor state level in 2022 by winning the Social Innovation Kategori (Improvement), Best Documentation Special Award, and Best Hybrid Project Special Award at the Negeri Selangor Public Service Innovation Persada Majlis.
ICQCC is an annual event that brings together global innovation practitioners to share ideas and experiences in an effort to increase productivity and innovation.
