Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) is one of the 5 Local Authorities (PBT) selected in Malaysia to be one of the study areas for Sustainable and Gender-Responsive Urban Research through Public Participation. This study is an initiative of the Ministry of Economy which has given a mandate to Urbanice Malaysia which is an agency under the Ministry of Perumahan and Local Government in collaboration with Penang Women's Development Corporation (PWDC) to carry out a Gender-Responsive Urban Budget Study through the Participation of Local People (GRPB).

GRPB is an innovative approach of budget distribution by PBT that involves the participation of the citizens to ensure that the budget distribution done meets gender wants and needs. This study is one of the efforts to overcome the issue of inclusivity, inequality and inefficiency in budget management at the local level so that this process can be institutionalized and become the best practice of all PBT in Malaysia.
YBrs. Tuan Hj. Mohamad Zahri bin Hj. Samingon, the Mayor of Petaling Jaya has spent the time to attend the closing session of the workshop and put hopes for the success and good formulation of this study.
MBPJ continues to consistently implement the active participation of the local community in the planning and implementation process of the city budget. This includes conducting dialogue sessions, workshops, and discussions to seek views and feedback from all levels of society, children, youth, men, women and even OKU.
