The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) continues to strengthen its commitment to the welfare of the younger generation by hosting the Petaling Jaya Child-Friendly City Expo (PJCFC Expo) 2024 which was inaugurated this morning by YBrs. Tuan Hj. Mohamad Zahri bin Hj. Samingon, Mayor of Petaling Jaya. This event was held in conjunction with the World Children's Day Celebration in collaboration with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Malaysia at MBPJ Civic Hall.
Children's welfare is a priority of MBPJ in the effort to shape an inclusive and prosperous society. Since 2000, the Child-Friendly City initiative has been implemented and gained international recognition when Petaling Jaya became the first city in Malaysia to achieve Child-Friendly City status by UNICEF in 2023.
The two-day expo became a platform of collaboration as it brought together local and international participants, including representatives from Japan, China, South Korea, Indonesia and several other cities in Malaysia. One of the main focus of this year's expo is the Petaling Jaya Child-Friendly City Excellence Award which was first introduced to recognize the efforts of individuals and organizations in forming a child-friendly environment in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
The expo symbolizes MBPJ’s ongoing commitment to providing inclusive learning, play, and growth spaces for children and inspires more initiatives focused on child wellbeing.
